Simply fresh

Now the one thing here I've alwasy tried to figure out is if your trying to set an underlying message in your Necropolis series. Seems like a silly question, though some people choose to tell a story just to tell it, and people misinterpret a story for something else entirely.

That aside, this particular episode was just an amazing watch from start to finish. The dialogue was well written, and didn't fall into the standardized "anime" sap that we usually get. Given the animation, it feels all to familiar (evolve vs church), but not without being refreshingly original.

The audio selection set a perfect tone, it immediately drew me in and told me: "this is cool, so pay attention" that is for a lack of better words.

Your style is simply fresh, and you make on a website that has so many others simply trying to fit in.

Hehehe, nah there's no real overlapping message, though I do throw in bits and pieces of my personal views in once and while. But if I was going to pull something out of my ass that I'd hope people would take from my cartoons is that there aren't really any heroes or villains in the world, just a bunch of random ass people with random ass motives for what they do, and man-made gauges to measure the purity of said motives. Of course, that's a far shot from mafia-minded Christians fighting against money-hungry wizards. I dunno, maybe I'll find some creative way to slip that in :P Thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed it

Part of me is enjoying the pacing, the other isnt.

To clarify, when I look back on this series, it seems to open up just too quickly without much back story (albeit this is based off a novel you've written before.) I feel as if there could be more explanation to whats going on.

Though the part of me that enjoys the pacing, feels that for a sequel stand point, this is great. As were still exploring our enemy, developing our characters, and setting the tone for this series.

Your voice actors (in this segment), are doing just fine, I alwasy enjoy it when they're doing more than reading blankly from a script. The ambiance is there, those slight beeps, atmospheric whoosh, paint the scene perfectly. There could always be more, but one should never over do it.

All in all, great short, keep em' coming.

Note: Of course, I already know these can be watched as full episodes on your website, so I've had an easier time following through than most maybe. It might be a good idea to make a note of that in each short. Just a thought.

Yeah I do, I always did and people still want to see it as a stand alone. And I understand what you mean by jumping right into it. I used the first scene of Act 4 to give a quick flash back in terms of what happened in the 3rd book. Not in depth but enough to paint a slight picture of the situation the world is currently in.

A lot of it was my fault, as I was writing the scripts like I would write the novels. Where it's more character development through the dialogue and such. I learned my lesson with the first few episodes that, the type of writing does not translate well to an episodic flash series >_>. This episode though, which is expected to be completely finished by October is going to be a lot more fun.

And the scripts to come 5 and up I actually included direction, another mistake I made in the past, I never gave direction to the VAs, just was like "here's a script" lawl. That's my bad. But it improves. The first two scenes of this are the shortest. The next one will probably be massive.

Great Pace, lacking ambiance.

So far your pacing is nice, with 5 mins an episode, you can truly take your time and develop your characters. You never want to rush things like that, cause you always want your audience to care about the characters on some level.

Your animation skill is improving, so I won't critique you on that this time. Only thing I can say is keep it up, smooth animation always beats flashy animation in my opinion.

You could do with more ambiance, or background sound effects. Make the scene come to life. Feint noises such as town chatter, or the forest at night. It's several little things that make an animation great so keep that in mind.

CartoonCoffee responds:

Thanks for the review, I realized the lack of ambiance a little late in the production. When your almost done small details slip your mind haha. I'll keep it in mind for the next one

Art is great, though animation seems stiff..

Clearly the art style is stunning. This is the first of your work that I've seen, but I'm already hooked. The voice actors compliment the characters so far.

My one current complaint, is the animation: It feels a bit rough this episode, it doesn't go along to well with the art. Slow down the pace a bit, and keep the animation fluid. The art will only improve as time goes on.

Cannot wait to see what this will evolve into..

CartoonCoffee responds:

Thank you! I understand what you mean but the animation seems a bit rough. I'm still learning and growing as a animator. I'm try to show improvement each episode. Hopefully the next one won't disappoint.
